What is that? A tornado or just wind blowing up dust

We had our first and hopefully our last tornado experience. The family went over to Mama Dolphin's house on Sunday for a very nice Father's Day cook out. We had really good food, swam, enjoyed good conversation, and played bag-o. There were dark clouds rolling in so we decided that we should all take off so that we could make it to our other destinations before the storm really hit. We hadn't heard that it was suppose to be bad but by the looks of the clouds the potential was there. So shortly after loading up our stuff, I started driving toward 165 which would be on the edge of Colfax. When I looked to the West of me there was the darkest clouds I have ever seen plus there was what looked to be a huge dust cloud. Kerry told me that since we were ahead of the storm to go ahead so I did (with disagreement). I wanted to turn around and go back to Mama Dolphin's house to the basement. I'm not one to get really scared of storms but by the looks of it, I was terrified. By the time that we hit the East edge of Colfax, we saw another huge cloud of something we weren't quite sure was. Then the Kerry got ahold of Mama Dolphin and she confirmed the sirens were just going off in Colfax. We thought it was too late to turn around so I hammered down on gas and sailed down 165 with a constant look behind me. We were going with the wind so we didn't notice it until we turned back North and were practical blown off of the road how hard the rain and wind were. Our van windows were whistling. We were a little more scared when lightening stroke a light pole at a location were we about to travel under. The van felt like it was rocking but I'm sure that it was just from the wind and straight line rain hitting it so hard. The radio did finally come on and say that there was a confirmed tornado on the ground just where we had been and heading where we were going. The wind and rain was going at 70 mph. Our destination was Papa 4 wheelers house so we kept on, just praying we would make it there alright. Papa 4 wheeler opened up a garage door for us so that we could grab the kids and run inside his house quick. Thankfully we made it there alright! It must not effected Griffin too badly because he feel asleep. Gavin just kept saying, "I scared, Mommy!" and I kept saying, "It is alright, it is just a little rain and wind!" little to his knowledge we were scared too.

I'm glad everyone ended up ok. That would have been terrifying to experience! I hope we never have to. Kim
