Look Out!!!

Look out! With Grandpa Old Tractor aka Grandpa Merle Bittner recovering from his chemo and having cancer this past couple of months, Kerry and I will have to step up to the plate even more than normal to help with the farming. Papa 4-Wheeler purchased this bad boy a couple of months ago because his truck and fifth wheel went out of working order last year so we are driving this grain truck. It should be interesting but it is super nice and great for Papa.

Kerry and I have both hauled in for Papa before but this year we have already had to drive the tractor and auger cart around. We both had a quick 2 minute crash course. Kerry took right to it and did amazing!! I appreciate that fact that he is so willing to help out. He makes me so proud. I did drive the tractor too but I need a lot more work. Let's just say if you ride with me you might get whip lash but I did get to where we needed to go and I can stop without ruining anything. Plus I did it in heels and dress clothes, there was no planning ahead on the first day of harvest so you get what you get when I showed up. It's always interesting.

Well Papa started farming yesterday so of course the boys were out there the minute they could be. We went from racing to farming... It is great! It is a little bitter sweet. Like I said before Papa Old Tractor has his second to last chemo treatment yesterday as well. We are so use to him and Mama Ruth helping out on the family farm doing their thing and we do our thing. No one really gets out of their comfort zone, we all know what we can do and get it done and taken care of. Plus it all is within the family and the family helps everyone out to get harvest done. Then Grandpa got sick and Grandma needs to take care of him so it is up to us and some hired helped to step up. I love and enjoy helping and am so thankful my husband is an awesome helper too. He just goes and does anything without hestiation. If I get too worried about doing or ruining something, he is right there beside me saying "You can do this and if not I'm right here and we will be able to figure it out." I love my hubby!! The added bonus to it all is the boys love to ride in anything as long as it deals with farming so they hop from one piece of equipment to another. The bitter part of it all is I miss seeing my grandparents out there, this is their family farm so it is hard to not see them out there. I am sure they will be at some point. Also, it has forced me to get out of my comfort zone and after living on the farm all my life, I needed the push. I'm sure I will be having a lot of crash courses from Papa 4-wheeler just hopefully no crashes. Good thing he is so patient with me, I can't wait to see what he has in store for us this year. So with that said, it should all be rather interest but I will be sure to keep you posted. I am a farm girl after all.
