Cast is Off

Griffin got his cast off last Monday.  He did really well and was rather thrilled about it coming off of his arm as you can tell with all his smiles.  They used a saw which was a little scary for me but it was amazing, it would cut through the cast but not when it touched skin.  The nurse cracked it like an egg shell and off it came.  I didn't realize how gross his skin would look underneath.  He said it was rather itchy so him and Gavin scratched it until the nurse could wash it off.
They took another X-Ray to see whether the fracture line was healing or not to which they discovered that he still has a fracture but they didn't want to cast him any longer.  So we went home with a partial, removable cast just for when he plays but he can sleep, eat, and do little things without it.
I was a little nervous being the nurse told me that if he falls on it or hits it hard then we need to come back in right away to make sure his fracture line has not worsen.  I think Gavin was just as glad to see the cast go as Griffin was.  On Friday, our sitter called to tell me that Griffin had some unusal bruising and it was very swollen so down to the nurse/doctor again to have it looked it.  I was a little bit of a wreck because we had to go to the hospital to have the X-Rays done and I couldn't go in with him but he did outstanding.  He was fine and I was sent home without a partial cast and told the bruising and swelling was part of the healing process.  He will have those kinds of symptoms for the next couple of weeks.  The last couple of days has really proved that right.  His little arm looks horrible but he is moving it like nothing happened.  It is hopeful that in four weeks he will be able to straighten it all the way out but we will wait and see.
