Saturday Nights
All of my boys live for Saturday nights. Most Saturday nights you can find us at the Fairbury American Legion Speedway in the stands routing for our favorite racer. Kerry's parents took him to the races when he was 6 months old and he has basically gone ever since. I started going to the races in high school and then found an interest to it plus it happened to be helpful to my social life at the time. Last year we started taking the boys at least twice a month through the the summer while this year it has been every weekend except two. The boys sit there intently watching, waiting, listening to the announcer, pointing out every crash or part hanging off of the car, getting dirt in the hair and eyes at time, asking a million questions to be answered, sometimes waving a flag, and loving every minute the races are on. Usually Griffy falls asleep on my lap right when the feature races are ready to start but I secretly love it because it is the only time that he really snuggles with me anymore so I will take what I can get. AND when I say they listen to the announcer, I mean they listen with both ears because they can come home the next day repeat most drivers by name and can say it exactly the way the announcer says it with driver nick names and all. It is extremely funny and neat to watch. Gavin even has the "50/50 tickets for sale" language down. He knows and recognizes cars that I may not even know or remember but Gavin knows them by color, number, and name. They live for the races.... On special nights, we head down to the pits to meet the drivers. Gavin and Griffin both stand in awe how it all works in the pits. They are just happy to watch the cars go in the trailers, watch the 4 wheelers go by, watch a racer chatting with another, or on an occasion they will take a peek inside the cars just to see what it looks like inside. I couldn't image what they would do if we lived by a race track. All I would have to do is get little seats for them to sit in and they would be perfectly thrilled just to sit and watch them all coming into the track. Then the next day and week, we get to hear the last nights exciting race all over again between the two of them. It is hilarious which you all have to hear and see sometime. Again all of my boys live for the races.....
