Griffin fractures his elbow

On Sunday night after dinner, Gavin and Griffin were playing airplane when Griffin's airplane crashed.  All of Griffin's weight fell right on his arm and he was instantly upset.  I put ice on it and calmed him down.  I didn't see any swelling or bruising so I thought he must have jammed it pretty well.  He ended up falling asleep for a short period of time so I called my friend, who's a nurse, and asked her what to do.  She and I both thought since he fell asleep and wasn't crying anymore than it was better just to watch him for the next couple of hours.  Gavin had his pool party so we went ahead and went with Griffin in tow.  Griffin didn't really cry until I took off his shirt and he was holding his arm.  He won't use it at all even while playing in the pool.  We noticed that above and below his elbow, it started to get really swollen.  He just wasn't himself either, he would play but never move his arm.  We headed home and called our doctor for advice.  She thought it would be a good idea to go to the ER, so we headed at 9:30 pm.  He was such a trooper and still didn't really cry, except for the fact he was going to the hospital and Gavin got to stay at Tyler's house.  They took an X-Ray and noticed he had two fractures; one on the inside and one on the outside tip of the elbow.  So he was put in a partial cast and a sling, the sling is the cutest little thing you ever did see.  By 12:30 am, we were headed home.  He still didn't really cry much.
He was still his goofy self.
The next day, we had to go to the orthopedic doctor to have it double checked.  His little hand was really swollen so they were not able to give him a cast until the swelling goes down completely.  The nurse put on a new partial cast so that his hand doesn't flop and get swollen.  A new sling was in order as well so his hand is above his heart.  He still really doesn't complain other than if you have to take the sling on and off, it hurts him.
This coming Monday he will be getting his cast because they expect all of the swelling to be down by then.  He will also get what he has been waiting for since this whole incident, a John Deere cast.  I don't know how they will do it but the nurse promised him one.  He is also looking forward to all the race car drivers signing his cast.

You have a tough little boy! He looks so happy in all of the pictures. I'm sure he will always remember the time he was able to get a JOHN DEERE cast :) Too bad he had so much swelling...That makes for a lot of trips to the doctor!
